FAQ & Private Pay

Do you take insurance?

Clear Communication Works is primarily a private‑pay practice. This allows for flexible, personalized care without the limitations of insurance requirements. For medically necessary voice and functional communication therapy, I am in‑network with a limited number of insurance plans. For all other services, including myofunctional and oral‑facial habit programs, payment is private‑pay.

Superbills can be provided upon request for potential out‑of‑network reimbursement.

Why private pay? What are the benefits?

Private‑pay care allows me to offer the kind of therapy many patients have been searching for but rarely find in insurance‑driven settings. It means:

  • More time and personalization — sessions aren’t rushed, and your therapy is tailored to your real‑life needs.

  • Specialized treatment for airway, voice, myofunctional, and communication concerns that insurance often doesn’t cover.

  • No diagnosis or referral required — you can start when you’re ready.

  • A nervous‑system‑aware approach that prioritizes comfort, pacing, and sustainable progress.

  • Direct access to a specialist without waitlists or generalist care.

Private pay gives us the freedom to focus on what actually helps you breathe, speak, and communicate with more ease.

Will insurance reimburse me if I submit a superbill?

Some patients receive partial reimbursement for out‑of‑network speech therapy. Coverage varies widely based on your plan, diagnosis, and deductible. A superbill can be provided upon request.

Why aren’t airway, voice, and myofunctional services always covered by insurance?

Many of the concerns we address — chronic cough, PVFM patterns, tongue thrust, oral‑facial habits, communication under stress — are considered “specialized” or “non‑traditional” by insurance companies. Private pay ensures you receive the care you need without fighting for coverage.

Can I use HSA or FSA funds?

Yes. Most patients use HSA/FSA funds to pay for therapy using pre‑tax dollars.

Are all your services online?

Yes. At this time, all services are provided through secure telepractice. This makes therapy accessible, flexible, and convenient — no travel, no waiting rooms, and no geographic limitations within the state.

Do I need a referral from a doctor?

Most patients do not need a referral to begin. For airway or voice concerns, an ENT evaluation may be recommended at some point for a complete picture of your vocal health. If you plan to use in‑network insurance for eligible services, a physician referral may be required.

What happens during the first session?

Your first session is a comprehensive evaluation. We review your history, assess your communication or oral‑facial patterns, identify root causes, and determine the most appropriate therapy or program pathway. You’ll leave with clarity and next steps.

Some myofunctional evaluations require a mailed evaluation kit; if needed, the cost is added to the evaluation fee and discussed in advance.

How long does therapy take?

It depends on your goals and the nature of your concerns. Many patients notice meaningful changes within a few weeks. Some choose short‑term, targeted therapy; others prefer longer‑term support for more complex patterns.

Do you work with children?

At this time Clear Communication Works focuses on teens and adults. If you’re seeking services for a younger child, referrals can be provided.

Can you help if my symptoms get worse with stress?

Yes. Many patients come because their communication or airway symptoms intensify during stress. Therapy integrates breath, body awareness, and communication strategies to support you in real‑life situations.

Do you offer programs, packages, or intensives?

Yes. Some services — including myofunctional therapy, oral‑facial habit retraining, and functional communication — are offered through structured online programs. Your evaluation will determine which program or therapy pathway is the best fit.

Is private‑pay therapy worth it?

If you’ve been dismissed, misdiagnosed, or stuck in a system that doesn’t understand your symptoms, private‑pay therapy can be transformative. You’re investing in:

  • Faster progress

  • Specialized expertise

  • A clinician who listens

  • A plan tailored to your body and your goals

  • Skills that support you for life

Most patients say they wish they had started sooner.

What if I’m not sure which service I need?

That’s completely normal. Your evaluation will clarify what’s happening and which therapy or program fits your needs. You don’t have to figure it out alone.

Do you offer reduced‑fee options?

A limited number of reduced‑fee spots may be available based on need and availability. If cost is a concern, please reach out to discuss options.

How do I get started?

Simply schedule an evaluation or consultation. This first session gives us a clear understanding of your needs and helps us determine the best path forward.
